What is the battery voltage?? Check it while cranking along with the cables.
Does the car have an alternator? If not put one on and save yourself a lot of
low voltage problems.

What is the timing both at cranking and at full advance? If you have a 12/1
engine and 23 degree heads right around 36 to 38 degrees total timing is just
fine.

What is the cam and spring tension and what rocker ratio as well. Most valve
springs will lose a little tension in the first 15 minutes of operation. Where
the springs checked for tension at the height they were installed at on the
heads, you have to use a spring tester to do this. Do not believe what they
print on the box and just put them in at the installed height without checking
the tension at that height. If the rockers are more than 1.5 ratio then add
tension on top of what the cam company says you need. If these are stock
diameter 1.25 springs with 110 on the seat and 280 at .500 lift you may be out
of spring at 6300. What cam are you running and what are the spring specs for
it? Are the lifters pumping up? That is a pretty common problem if you do not
have the race lifters if they are hydraulic. And 6300 is about where stock
lifters give up.

Do you have a fuel pressure gage? If not get one and mount it so you
can see it, but if it is mechanical with no isolator mount it outside
so if there is a leak you do not have fuel in the car. If you have a
Holly carb you ought to have about 6.5 psi fuel pressure all the
time. Rotate the gage in the mount so at 6.5 the needle is straight up
and do the same for the oil pressure as well so at correct oil
pressure the needle is straight up along with the shift point on the
tach as well if you don't have a shift light. Check the float level as
well along with jetting..

1/2 fuel lines are all well and good but what size is the pickup in
the tank and is the filter sock on the pickup old and dirty?? Same for
the fuel filter. What did it come off of horsepower wise and are you
sure it is clean?

What size needle and seats do you have? If a Holley you ought to have
the 0.110 ones with the window type inlet to them. What size are the
inlet fittings to the carb? Do they neck down to 5/16 inverted flair
as some do if so that is the size of your fuel system as a 5/16
fitting has a 1/4 inch id.
