Wes,

What you saw is probably a chemical for cleaning oxidized connections. I 
doubt that it would correct a salt invasion issue. To protect the 
connection from salt is a different situation. The idea is to keep the 
salt out in the first place. Dielectric grease or something similar 
would be my suggestion.
