Coulda been R11, but my memory, faulty as it is sometimes, still says R12.
But no matter, Freon is bad actor as is Halon. All are CFCs and do damage to
the ozone layer which apparently is beginning to heal ove Antartica.

Freon is a brand name but it is commonly used to refer to any of many
different compounds that are used as refrigerents. The one you washed parts
with was probably R11 which is a liquid at atmospheric pressure and anything
under about 75 degrees F. It is a great solvent but it is no longer legal to
release any of them into the atmosphere.
