Studebaker

The old-timers will remember that the Studebaker was always a little odd-ball
and a little under powered (although they got terrific mileage).   When the 49
came out the rear window looked like a curved windshield the trunk poked out
like a hood.   So the joke was that nobody could tell if the car was coming or
going.
