Ed,
  If you return it to Sears their policy is to get it repaired at your cost,
not replace it.  If you look at the warrenty statement, it does not cover
torque wrenches.  I had one of theirs and it broke and they did not want to
warrenty it.  After a few e-mails to headquarters, they gave me a new one.

You might want to consdier letting them send it off for repairs and then
paying for the repair thru them.
