Dave, there is still pressure over the piston on the exhaust stroke as
it pumps the exhaust gas, the exhaust valve stays open a long time after
TDC. Granted, the pressure is not as much as on the
compression/expansion stroke, but it is still present reducing the
stress on the rod. No doubt figures exist in textbooks for the amounts,
but the exhaust gas has weight and it is not able to blow out the port
and pipe by itself entirely. Cheers Bill
