William, we used a lot of that stuff, it seemed to be a secret where it came
from. I do remember that a company somewhere used to add a dye to it and
charged about $10.00 a gallon for it. Jim Bucher (Chevrolet T/F) and I tried
unsuccessfully to buy it from a chemical company that sold it to clean
printing plates. We were told we HAVE to buy it from THE source and couldn't
use it legally unless it had the SPECIAL dye in it. Strange HUH?

Greetings to the list!
There is a wealth of talent on this list and very few questions go
unanswered.
I was having lunch today with 2 dear friends from the top fuel wars of
the early 60's.The question came up,"where does nitromethane come
from? Ours came from Hill Bros.Chemical Co. in Phoenix (at $3.75/gal)
but beyond that,is there a chemist on the list that can describe the
base material and the manufacturing process that produces it?
Thanks in advance for answering our query.

but it will be 115 soon enough.
