The FIA is the oldest and most respected sanctioning body, since the
turn of century. Just because some people don't like them, doesn't
diminish their very influential role in lsr history -- which predates
even SCTA by a couple of decades. Although this in an amateur sport,
when you seek world recognition, there are layers of management and
authority to sort thorough and that takes money to run and maintain.

I appreciate anyone who runs at speeds that exceed current records,
but a time slip does not a record make -- the independent
certification process is the only way to say for sure that a record
has been set, anything less is just talk. Two very important points, I
am sure you agree, are the clock certification and the engine
inspection after the runs.

Having been involved with motorsports up to my eyeballs for 30
(yikes!) years, I have seen plenty of "records" evaporate when the
certification process was invoked. And yes, some don't give a fig
about the certification process, like Hal Needham and that "one-way"
rocket claim. If we sympathize with your logic, then we have embrace
Needham as well.

BTW, the "any record" phrase was a future tense comment, not directed
to you in anyway, the postulation is generic unless specifically
noted.

You lost me with the comment about your spouse . . .

I have only 4 of those motorcycle books left. You may buy them from me
if you like, they are $20. each, plus shipping (approx. $3.50)
