Years ago I called Doc Jeffries and spent some time visiting with him on this
very subject. His comment RE the 9 inch was that it ate up too much HP for his
tastes. He replaced the IRS in his Vette with a Chevy 10 Bolt which he
considered more efficient - enough to overcome the advantage of endless gears
available for 9". Given Doc & Beachball's success with this car (now
Moore-Stansbury) I am not in any position to argue his choice. The choice of
gear ratios available to you with the IRS is pretty slim - I have yet to find a
combination that works to my satisfaction. Joe has the answer: a quick-change.
Unfortunately SCTA wont let us use it in GT (I want to retain the option of
changing from GT to MS and back easily) What is the opinion of this learned body
on the merits of 9" vs 10 or 12 bolt in regards to energy loss?
