Correction please! Andy Green's fire suit was not really anything close to
CarbonX in it's characteristics
Actually Andy Green's fire suit although a carbon fiber is a very different
fiber, does not hold up for abrasion and through washing well and doesn't
have the oxygen and heat absorption qualities that make the CarbonX so
desirable.
Look on it as generation one in a development where CarbonX would be in the
generation eight or nine range on comparable tests. As explained to me by
someone who knows the qualities of the two fibers the CarbonX has many times
the protective qualities of the fibers in Mr. Green's suit, holds up well in
abrasion and is very different in the way it takes the oxygen away from a
fire to protect the wearer. It even will prevent damage to the thread used
to quilt layers together or embroidery on the surface of the fabric.
