Well, my youngest Phillip was hooked at Speedweek, but on trucks. So I
figured I'd ask the experts...what class would a Ford Ranchero or El Camino
run in? There are two sizes for the Ranchero, big and Falcon sized.
Now, I was truly impressed by the 450 mph run. No doubt about it! That puppy
was moving along and when iit hit the 2 mile 1/4 trap it was already at
300plus mph! I was and still am impressed with that bunch of people! And
thanks to Ed Van Scoy, they got it out of the muck. To all who weren't there,
when Tom pulled the 'chutes, they just blew away in shreds or with broked
static lines. I did some dinky calculator math and find the just going from
400 to 450 mph, the chute drag increases by 26.5%. So it the chutes were
designed for something less then I certainly understand why they pulled away.
Because space is limited, I suspect that kevlar or some exotic materials will
be needed.
A guy brought a MonoWHeeled bike (car?) to the event. Yes, I said MONO
wheeled. One wheel. Had it in two versions, a mono pedal type and one that
had a snowmobile engine. Truly innovative. Even got it through tech! ANd he
made I think about 50 or 54 mph. Truly unique. I hope he is on the list or
will get on it...
I had the pleasure of "assisting" (not much) the alabama gang with his girly
camaro. I am sure that when keith gets home and out of the snow on I-80 that
he will tell you everything. Bottom line is he went the fastest he has ever
been, I think it was 228 or something, but just a little shy of the mark.
But, it was a tremendous effort by Dave Dahlgren that got thim there. Dave is
a jewel when it come to motors and such especially nitrous...good going Dave!
And it got cold!
