I'm anxious to know what happened here too.  I
had a similar event with a 440 Dodge.  I had just
changed to Packard solid core wires, I tried the
motor, it when phoooy, and I found three of the
plugs had blown the insulators right off, leaving
only the metal part screwed into the head with a
1/4" hole where the porcelain used to be.  Never
did totally figure it out.
