You really need to run an alternator , nearly
all ignitions thrive on 14volts, you would be shocked to see what a volt meter
reads when just running a battery . Speedway sells a one wire alternator
with an oversize aluminum pully for less than a hundred dollars. Don,t
switch it off you will loose far more performance than the 5 HP you ever
will save and you won't have to keep chargeing the thing up in the pits, to say
nothing of the batteries you have been killing. Good luck Kvach

Subject: 16 Volt?
One of my problems at Speed Week was a weak battery. I don't run an
alternator, just a fresh-charged 12V Optima battery. Some of the 1/4
milers use 16 volt batteries & I was wondering if this was a good choice
for my Vette and would welcome opinions. The electrical components I
run off the battery are fuel pump, MSD and electric fan. As a side, I
have gone through 3 "gel" batteries in the last 7 years, coincidence?
