My brother runs a trick setup on his race car (of
another type). He runs a one-wire alternator,
and he has installed a main disconnect switch on
the alternator wire. He lets the alternator do
it's thing all the time right up to when he gets
ready for the green, when he just switches it
off. The parasitic drag without an electrical
output is nil. When he slows down, he clicks the
alternator back on. He has had great luck with
it. It's an interesting concept and if you run
your motor in staging, to staging, in the pits,
or at any time other than while actually racing,
it my solve your problems.
