[Healeys] Electrical issue

I have an odd electrical issue. When the car is idling or driving, my
ammeter flicks rhythmically from center to discharge as though the turn
signals or wipers were on ( they aren=E2=80=99t). There is no auxiliary tha=
t is
discharging that would cause this ammeter motion. Simultaneously my
generator light glows very dimly. I have a new battery and replaced the
voltage regulator. I have the original generator but notwithstanding the
dim red light, it seems to be charging fine. Any thoughts? I=E2=80=99m relu=
ctant to
take it on a longish trip because of this. Don=E2=80=99t think it=E2=80=99s=
 a ground:
