Far be it for me to doubt the "Word of Haynes" but ... I  would suggest
that 70 lb ft for the starter dog nut is woefully insufficient.
I have seen many 6 cylinder cranks ruined as a consequence of that nut
coming loose.
I would suggest something more like 150 lb ft at least.
I use a slugging wrench and 2 lb mallet.
