My handbook for Mk I & II, including BJ7, (part no AKD 3915) states:
Ignition warning light
When the ignition is switched on the light located in the tachometer face
will glow red. ....
Main beam warning light
A red (or blue, Export) light located in the speedometer face glows when the
headlights are switched on, with the two beams in the raised position. The
light goes out when the headlights are dipped.
The same source has diagrams for both left and right hand drive instruments
and switches. The tachometer is always closest to the centre line of the
car and has an ignition warning light fitted. The speedometer is always
towards the outside of the car and has a headlight beam warning light
fitted.

Hi, Ron. According to Anderson and Moment, pg. 104, "On the right was the
tachometer with a number on the face indicating the ratio, and incorporating
the red (emphasis mine) high-beam warning light." Based on this, I used a
red lens (a piece of stage light gel) when I had mine apart.

Subject: [Healeys] High beam warning light color
I need some help with the proper color for the high beam warning light in my
'61 BN7.
The 2004 Originality Guide (page 9) says that cars destined for "continental
export" had blue warning lights for the high beam and red for the ignition
warning light. My car was shipped directly to California for sale by a
dealer here. Is that considered "continental export"?
I just had my speedo repaired by Foreign Speedo. The little colored lens
for the high beam warning light was missing since I bought the car. Preston
told me they discovered a red lens inside and he reinstalled it.
So, I am wondering if it should be blue or red? Since I have the gages out,
now would be the time to make it right if I can find out what is right.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ron Fine
