Thirty-five or so years ago I made a tow bar assy. for flat towing a Big
Healey. It connected to the inside of the threaded tubes in the front
frame rails, the same ones the bumper brackets attach to on the outside. I
made it so it was a separate subframe that could be left on the car if
necessary, just removing the towing arms and hitch receiver. It also could
be used with the front bumper still attached. It worked well, but I only
used it a few times. I still have the unit.
