Subject: [Healeys] Head Gasket
Not trying to cause any confusion on this topic. The reason the Payen gaske=
t is marked TOP and FRONT is because the gasket WILL fit either way. The lo=
wer photo is two gaskets, one atop the other but one is TOP up and the othe=
r inverted. The holes all line up.
The issue is which side of the gasket had the cylinder crimp, the bent over=
seal around each cylinder, is up or down. On older copper faced Payen gask=
ets the crimp is against the block or Down. Thus the other side is marked w=
ith the Top and Front markings. Some later Payen head gaskets use a one pie=
ce (separate piece of metal) crimp. After this change the gasket I have loo=
ked at are not marked Top or Front.=20
