Not sure if you can change the water pump with the radiator in or not, but you can definiately pull the fan with the radiator in on a BJ8; just did it. But if you're chnaging the water pump, you'd have to drain the coolant anyway and to pull the radiator at that point is just a matter of a few bolts and a hose or two. Not much work and cheap insurance against accidently putting a wrench through the radiator trying to get the water pump out. My 2 cents, fwiw.
