A general rule is in the automotive industry is; Cars build before the
summer break (August) are car of the year there where build. After August
there considered model of the following year. To give them time to get the
NEW model out to the dealer. So that said, Model changes are done after
August. NOVEMBER build is a car for the following year.

Some cars sat on lots for a while and then sold. I know of a few cars with
registration dates of say 1965 when they are actually an early 1964 car. I
would call you car a 64 as per manuafacture date, but it could have been a
65 based on when it was sold and registered. Clear as mud...
