One cable from the battery should go to the solenoid, the other should be
bolted to the chassis. Find the one bolted to the chassis and follow it to the
battery. Whichever terminal on the battery is connected to that cable indicates
chassis 'ground' (more correctly called 'common').
If the battery terminals aren't labeled, the positive terminal is usually
larger in diameter than the negative.

Subject: [Healeys] Grounding
Folks,
Is there any way to tell if a car is positive or negative ground?
The previous owner used a red positive battery cable for both the positive
and ground cables.
Thanks,
Ron
