Hey Fred, the best fluid that I discovered on the list for both the
steering box and idler box is STP.
Its thick, slickery, slows down leaking, and it has next to no odor if it
does leak a bit. Just heat it up
a bit to thin it out a little, put it in a oiler can and filler up.
No leaks or problem in my car so far for 800 miles.
The adjustment is done from the top of the steering box with the lock nut
and screw. Check out
your manual.
Put the car up on stands so you can rotate the wheel freely, from one side
to
another. There should be a slight drag when the steering gets close to the
middle then loosen up after it passes middle.
