hope this isn"t your problemb, but last year i helped put a rebuilt motor into 
an MGB and we could not get oil pressure.  had to drop the pan to check oil 
pump.  it worked fine, so i took a flashlight and  began to check everything.  
the drive spindle for the oil pump was missing.    hjim
