I fully understand as I replaced my cushions with new foam. They are
very hard now so..., how far apart and how deep do the holes need to be
drilled in order to soften the seats?

When I replaced mine was after a drive to a 700 mile Conclave on foam
that "wasn't" any longer. It had collapsed to nothing. My butt hurt so
bad I could hardly move when I got home. New foam and all is well.
