Though I couldn't say it as colourfully as our pal Ed, I must agree with his
intent.
Undercoating on a driven Healey is not good news. Your intention is to
protect and preserve the metal, but it's been proven to usually do just the
opposite over time. Moisture will get in under the undercoating and being
trapped there, will eat away at the metal, with eventual rusting.
I am currently involved in the restoration of a low mileage BN1 that had
undercoating applied and been put into storage long ago. The eventual result
has been pin holes and thin metal in many places inside the fender surfaces
where, if left with just a bare surface would have been able to dry
thoroughly 50 years ago and still been solid today.
My answer is to apply quality smooth clean paint surface everywhere that
when it gets wet, will simply bead up and dry. If you get into tar
splatters, it will easily clean off with solvents once you get home. Todays
paints will withstand driving conditions and will not usually be blasted off
by road dirt if that's what the owner is concerned about.
