Check www.dunloptires.com. They say the correct nominal rim size is 70% of the
manufactures tire section size ( plus or minus a bit ).Therefore a 165 tire
suits 4.5 inch rim, 175 a 4.8inch,185 a 5.0inch and 195 a 5.3inch. The
selection criteria should be the correct width of tire to rim as that affects
the amount and position at which the tire flexes = heat build-up. Next select
an aspect ratio that best suits you desired overall diameter and therefore
rolling circumference. Obviously we can adjust the width/section size to rim
size a small degree.
