We install several of the Pertronix as well as the Crane systems in
many cars at the request of owners as well as the newer cars that had
electronic ignition. And like I said they will fail some day and when
they do you are stuck. You will need to call a tow truck to get home.
I have neve had a set of points fail to the point that the car would
not run. As well as they will let you know there is a problem before
the fail completly. The electronic ignition will just quit with no
warning.
As for the ignition rotors when Lucas went to electronic ignition in
1975 they came out with a new updated rotor for the electronic
ignition. They are a different design, the electronic ignition rotors
have a larger surface area than the points style rotors. At the time
they were not interchangable.
I do agree with you that you will start easier with electronic
ignition. But that is because you are getting a full spark out of the
coil at the slow cranking speed. With point there is not enough of a
saturation time for the coil to make a full spark. Also if you are
using a old OE style positive ground coil with a new negative ground
electronic ignition system, you are defeating the reason for the
electronic ignition. Because you are loosing about 25% of the coils
out put by connecting it backwards.
