Situation may be clarifying itself....
Replacing the rotor arm made no difference, as I'd rather presumed it
wouldn't.
Have sent Pertronix off to be tested.
Until I get the diagnosis there, I'm thrown back on to points
reinstallation.
Am really keen to get detailed instructions or pictures in order to get the
job done right. Not much point in doing it wrong and car still not starting,
but for different reason!!
For example, where precisely does the little boot lace wire with a ring on
one end and an open end on the other go?? The ring goes onto the post with
the spring and the wire from the condenser..where does the open end go??
Presumably under one of the cross headed screws that hold the baseplate in?
But which?? I won't reach one and seemingly can't attach to the other!
And is there a wire to the back of the bolt that carries the male spade
connector for the coil wire?? Doesn't appear that there is one, but seems
that there should(?) be??
There are two brown flat insulator washers. One is bigger than the other.
Which goes where?
