Hi Mark,
I just did this job yesterday on my BJ7 and struggled at first because I had
taken the parts out 3 years ago and forgot exactly how they went back in. I
installed them wrong first and the rubber boot would not fit. Second time was a
charm.
First I put a small amount of caliper grease on the brake cylinder and clip
parts that slide along the backing plate and where the ebrake arm pivots. Then
install the smaller clip (the one with hooks) so that the clip opening is
opposite the ebrake lever. I then installed the ebrake lever which requires a
bit of pushing/prying to slip the pivot under the wheel cylinder. Next step was
to slide the larger clip in (opening towards the ebrake lever). Things start to
get tight and required some light tapping with a punch to get to the point
where the clips snapped together. Finally, I installed the rubber dust shield
over the brake lever and over the top clip. The gap created by the smaller clip
being under the larger clip is where the rubber ring fits all around and does
not interfere with the cylinder sliding action.
Cheers,
John
