This thread brings up a question for me. I have a 1 piece bar and when it
is not in use where do I stow it? It is too long to stow in trunk or behind
the rear squab.

John, If you're happy with the curve of the bar, and don't have access to a
welder, I'd be inclined to do a "dry" fix.
Cut it in half, fit both halves into their sockets so they overlap, mark one
against the other, and saw the overlapped bit off.
Buy a 4" solid bar that fits nicely into the tube and round off one end on
the
grinder. Insert it halfway into one of the bar halves.
Get a fair-sized nail, stick it into your drill index into the hole that
fits,
and use that drill to drill through both tonneau bar and its peg 1" in from
the end of the tube. Cut the head off the nail, cut it again to the tube
diameter plus 3/32", insert into drilled hole and peen over the nail on both
sides until fairly flush.
You now have a two-piece tonneau bar. If you're so inclined, both can be
welded together at some point to make a one-piece bar.
Best regards
Peter
