I was going to paint the air cleaners myself, with the Hammerite, -but then
found that one of the suppliers would do a professional job for me.. --So I
sent them to be done. Came back perfect. Can't remember if it was BCS, or
Healey Surgeons.

Subject: re best paint for BJ8 air cleaners
Alan,
Hammerite is probably the best other than the rustoleum equivalent. Ive
found the rustoleum is more correct of a silver grey ( hammerite tends to
have a slightly bluer tint) However, the rustoleum is very hard to control
the distinctive hammer marks so to say. I feel it will give a heavier
texture than desired. Ive seen original late E Jag air cans that look like a
4 year old painted them, with drips and very heavy mottling of the paint.
Original healey air cleaners ive seen are more straight silver/grey with not
that much mottling. You can duplicate this by trying test patterns done in
direct sun ( make that a good hot day) Two good coats should do it, the more
you spray on ,the heavier the mottling and it looks too thick by then. Go
easy, test spray and you should get it right 9 sivery with small mottling
texture. it dries fast and when done dont forget to oil the mesh
