I'm throwing out the beat up motor on my old Smiths blower assy, then, because
it cant be original type.. if that's the case.
At least this discussion gets one more piece of rusty junk out of my garage.

Subject: DC electric motors
The heater motor in the Austin Healey is a DC electric motor , the
field
windings are parallel to the armature , to reverse the rotation of this
motor
you would have to change the flow of electricity through the field widings
OR
through the armature ... when you change your battery to negative ground
you
are reversing the flow of electricity through the field windings AND the
armature , the motor will still run in the same direction as before ...
The radiator fan motors on a MGB have permanent magnets , so if you
connect the motor backwards you have reversed the flow of electricity
ONLY
through
the armature ... ie . motor runs backwards , engine will overheat ...
