Forgot to add a point to my previous posting.
Having taken the axles out many times to get the seals installed correctly
(I hate admitting this) I found that installing some 1/4 x 28 counter sunk
bolts helped keep the axle shaft from separating from the hub on
disassembly. Upon removing the brake drum I was finding oil on my brake
parts. Installing a few 1/4 bolts keeps this from happening. Now I can
disassemble those parts as needed (brake lining R&R) without cleaning up the
mess from the diff oil.

Subject: rear axle seals
I've ordered new O-rings, lockwashers and seals for the rear end, and have
an
8-sided nut socket. The half axles are out as part of a Lempert 3.54
conversion, and I want to do the seals while all is disassembled. Are there
any tips or practical tips from those of you who've done this? In
particular,
I'm wondering if the rear bearing is a slide fit or whether you need to use
a
puller, which I would have to line up for the project.
