So...have I sufficiently proved my "novice" status yet?  Sorry...no 
fiberglass.  Upon further reflection the shop I used (and I won't ever use them 
again 
but that's another story) told me the steel in the rear area was too thin "like 
(the thickness of) fiberglass," and he was not comfortable mounting them 
there.
