I have a few questions in regard to my BJ8 transmission. Just
remember this is my first time that I have been inside of one of these
things.
1. One of my work shop manuals says that if the end float exceeds .012
on the layshaft
unit, the thrust washer should be replaced. Mine does, so I
will have to order a
new one. My question is, what is the minimum end float that I
should try to
establish?
2. There doesn't seem to be a supplier for gear plungers(detent
plungers). Springs
are available, but not plungers. Can I assume that you make your
own and if so
how do you determine length and width? I am missing the two
plungers that fit on
the main shaft.
3. I have read in the archives about the buffer pad that mounts in the
bell housing
which keeps the shifters shafts from going to far, causing
problems with the
sliding hub balls. Is there a supplier or again do you make
your own, if so what is
the best material?
I would appreciate your input. Thanks in advance.
