Hi Dick,
I can appreciate the quizzical response to all of the mechanical carb issues I
had brought up. But there is a reason...
When I bought my car, 25 years ago, it had dual HD6 carbs on it, and I drove
it for 8? years that way with no problems.
It was only when I started researching doing a restoration that I learned that
my car and engine numbers were for a tricarb (early).
So I set about collecting the carbs, manifolds and linkages to convert it
back. (and trading in all of the twin HD6 hardware).
The tricarb parts, most of them, looked like they had spent a decade at the
bottom of a rain barrel when I got them. So I cleaned them, had them rebushed,
rebuilt them with all new service parts etc etc. -Restored all the linkages
etc. Everything to reinstall them as accurate as originally fitted. So the
whole setup is essentially new and untested, as is the rest of the car.
I think the majority of the problems I have been having are due to the new and
non-debugged nature of the setup, and the fact that I am relatively unfamiliar
with fine tuning these carbs and linkages. --As I had rarely had to touch the
HD6 setup.
So anyway, my situation is self inflicted, every thing being new to the car,
and me.
Them carbs shore is purty, an' correct, but they don' run worth a damn,
.....yet.

Subject: Re: Tricarb Idle, and other recent issues
I must lead a charmed life (and I should enjoy it while it lasts) but my
tricarb, just out of a 15-year layup, idles just fine at about 800RPM once
warm.
The carbs have NEVER been rebuilt (I know, I'm the original owner) but
whatever
adjusting/fiddling I did years ago seems to have worked.
Yes, I DO appreciate how lucky I am - both to have the car, AND to have
everything (including the original fuel pump!) still working so well. You
may
recall my frozen clutch? It had to be replaced - but, the gearbox (naturally
I
checked it while it was out) got a clean bill of health. Brakes are next,
and the
winter will see numerous small odds and ends attended to.
I'm keeping my 48-spoke wheels, and recently fitted Michelin 175R-15 XZ
tires
from Coker. So far, I am quite pleased with them - and, they look "right" in
the wheelwells.
Unfortunately, they no longer seem to be listed, so I may not be able to
replace them.
