Sporadic firing of the timing light can be indicative
of alot of things, including:
1) A bad Condensor
2) Dirty Contacts
3) Bad distributor "terminal" or leads (this is the
little white plastic thingamabob on the front of the
distributor - the wires have to be in good condition
and the plastic can't be cracked)
4) An old coil that isn't recharging quickly enough or
weak connections between your ignition switch, fuse
box, distributor and coil.
FYI a pertronix ignition module will put timing spot
on like a Steinway metronome. Please don't flame me
points/contacts purists!
