I like them a little ways up the fender to on the door, I suppose the field
is wider if it is closer, but the fender mirror is pretty much in my sight
all the time without taking eyes off the road, with a door mirror I see the
car right as it hits my blind spot, with the fender/convex arrangement I
pretty much see the whole lane from right beside me (on whatever side the
mirror is on) to a good way back>
I don't need to know if there is a car coming up on the lane behind me to
the inch, I just want to know it is there.
Convex works better for me, obviously there are as many opinions on this as
type of beer or wine you like, brunette or blond, etc. but in regards to the
original question it is easier to replace the current mirrors with convex
than drill new holes and fill the old, that is what I would try first. When
I got my car it had flat mirrors mounted forward, I switched to convex and
liked it much better, but I have had other LBCs set up that way too.
