The problem basically had nothing to do with the G-Cube. The computer was too
busy with a background program to pay attention to the G-Cube. The background
program is called Dssagent and is apparently installed by some commercial
software. I never heard of it until I looked on the Internet and saw people
complaining about it using CPU time and wanting to dial out on its own.
Apparently Dssagent is supposed to broadcast or receive data so that the
startup window of the software could be modified (or something like that). I
didn't bother to look any farther. Once I killed it everything work as
before.
By the way, thanks Dick for attempting to help. It didn't happen to be the
problem, but I appreciate the effort. (I am using the separate power supply)
