Bob,

I read the article in NAP and like all of Byron's Geez articles it was very
informative. There's so much that Geez can tell us about our runs if you
know how to look at the data. I just want to thank Byron for writing those
articles.

As for your 1 to 2nd shift, you said there were "a couple of runs" where
you shifted at 29 m.p.h. Can I gather from that that there were also runs
where you shift at 30 m.p.h. or faster? Why did you shift to 2nd at
29 m.p.h. on those runs? Was it a course dependant thing (you needed
to complete the shift before a slalom/turn/tricky course element? I think
using Geez to tell you at what speed you shifted (which might be too early)
is almost as useful as using it to tell you how quickly you shifted.

Maybe it's beneficial for your car to not shift until 35 m.p.h. and you short
shifted for no real reason. That's also information that can help lower your
times!

Did anyone else see Byron's article in N. Am. Pylon? He gave us a nice way
to analyze the first 5 seconds of a run.

I thought it was great! So I went back at a few of my recent runs. I
have Seattle Pro and a recent regional autox. I saw a lot a variation in my 1-2
shift. But the 30-40 speed didn't quite work for me. I had a couple of runs
where
I shifted at 29 m.p.h. At first, I saw a really good 30-40 time on those, but
then
realized, I didn't hit 30 until letting clutch out in 2nd :(

I'm thinking of comparing 0-35 mph as a good way to aggregate the 1-2 shift and
the
initial
clutch release.

Has anyone else checked out the first 5.0 sec. or so like this ?

Bob
