I ordered a Triumph TR4 billet crankshaft from Moldex by phone from Joe Flo=
wers in June 2017. I received it in September 2017. At my next engine rebui=
ld, in March of 2019, I installed the crank in the prepared engine block. I=
t would not completely rotate as the counterweight hit the engine block. Th=
e counterweights had not been completely machined. I returned the crank to =
Moldex after a phone call to Joe Flower to discuss the problem. In about 2-=
1/2 weeks I received the crank back. I finished the engine rebuild, took th=
e engine off the engine stand and proceeded to bolt the flywheel on. Only t=
hree of the four tapped holes in the crank were completely tapped. The four=
th had about 2 or 3 threads and that is all. We broke a tap off in the hole=
trying to manually tap it through. I again called Joe, disassembled the en=
gine, and shipped the crank back to Moldex for completion. I received it ba=
ck again in about 2-1/2 weeks. Reassembled the engine and raced in three we=
ekends in 2019, no problems.=20
I called Joe in April 2019 and asked to be reimbursed for the $130 in shipp=
ing costs to ship the crank back to him for completion, twice. Since April =
2019 I have called about 10 times to ask to recover the shipping costs. Twi=
ce I was told a check had been sent. I have not received the $130 as of thi=
s date.=20
This is a cautionary tale for those who are thinking of buying a billet cra=
nkshaft from Moldex.=20
