If we're talking (typing) about the oil pump/distributor drive gear end fl=
oat being excessive, agreed, no shim, something is worn, identify the probl=
em and correct it.Obviously the gasket thickness is a big part of the equat=
ion.Wear would most likely be obvious on the top face of the bush or the th=
rust face on the bottom of the pedestal.When I set these up I usually trim =
a little off of the bottom of the pedestal mounting flange to get the corre=
ct end float and bolt it up metal-onmetal, no gasket.HTHGlen

gear with a thin shim under it, the shim will not last. I just looked at Mo=
ss and they have that distributor bushing listed for $75 plus or minus.
If you have slop with that distributor drive, you will never get the igniti=
on timing to be rock solid.
