If you want to run a fuel pressure gauge in the cockpit, the isolator
provides a fuel barrier for safety reasons. It's basically a diaphragm
(usually mounted in the engine compartment) with the gasoline pressure line
on one side and a non-flammable liquid to pressurize the gauge on the
other.
