This is interesting. I believe there are only these 2 makes and that neither
are bad.
The gears that got very hot in my car was an Oerlikon set but I think that the
reason for that is the pinion teeth : it is an 4.31 ratio set with only 9 teeth
on the pinion and these teeth are longer and very curved and maybe they are
generating more heat?
In general, whatever method or special tools are used to install the gears, one
has to use his senses : looking at the mesh pattern with Dykem blue or some
other paint, listen for a wining sound, feel for heat and smell for burnt oil!

Onderwerp: Re: [Fot] Crown and pinion gear break in
Maybe something to know about Diffs:
On Triumphs, these days are two different types of gear available:
1. Gleason gears
2. Oerlikon gears
The workshop manual is referring to Gleason gear type. If you got an Oerlikon
type of gear (the more modern one), and you try to set it up with the Workshop
manual, then the gear will fail.
This is because, that the contact pattern, which is shown in the manual, is
mirrored at an Oerlikon type.
So most Oerlikons die of wrong contact pattern, with the pinion too deep in the
Crown wheel, almost touching the carrier.
Cheers
Chris
