Depending on the friction coefficient of the brake shoe material and
velocity/pressure there would be varied levels of heat generation. It
appears heat is the causative failure component. Testing would be the only
accurate way to tell. I no longer have access to the engineering labs at
Cornell or we could get some numbers to compare using various compounds and
speed simulations.

Would the brake shoe compound have an influence on the drum longevity?

My take-away is the Centric aftermarket drums are not up to the task on my
car. I have yet to weigh my TR250, but I'm confident despite best efforts
the car is not a lightweight. Neither is the driver! While the aftermarket
drums are working for some, I'm not going down that road again.
I appreciate everybody's comments, and hope everybody continues to look
closely at their drums (especially the aftermarket ones) while going through
their pre-race rituals!
