I converted to silicone brake fluid long ago, then had the pleasure of dealing
with a multitude of seal leaks, I rebuilt every component, flushed the system
carefully, switched back to Dot 3/4 and watched it turn to jello. Took three
flushes to get rid of the crap. I also had Silicone fluid in one of my
motorcycles. I had a strange problem with the front brakes. Under hard use they
would go soft, stay soft for a while, and the fluid reservoir would overfill. I
had to disassemble the calipers to find the problem?drops of water in the
calipers. Silicone is not hygroscopic, so water stays separate and can collect
in places where it?s very hard to bleed it from. Glycol and part synthetic
fluid absorbs moisture so it can be eliminated by flushing or even just
thorough bleeding. The ONLY benefit I can see to Silicone brake fluid is that
it lasts a long time. I don?t think it belongs in any performance vehicle.
