Amici All,
My Sears jack lasted two months before is started to leak, this was about 6=
years ago. Sears sells no repair parts to fix their jacks ( at that time =
) only offered a replacement pump at a cost higher than a new jack on the =
shelf in the store. Went to a repair shop that rebuilds, repairs jacks and=
pumps and was told to scrap it as they are not rebuild-able. =20
Was given a 1 1/4 ton Aluminum jack from Harbor Freight 2 years ago, no pro=
blems other than it doesnt lift very high. Have to use blocks to work on t=
he tow van. As for the Crapsman Tools ... very sad they went to China. Ne=
w tools break all the time, not so stuff they made 20 plus years ago. Alwa=
ys felt they could of charged twice as much, keep the quality a finish up a=
nd they would still be cheaper than the high line tools sold off the trucks=
.
Sad to say even the Kobalt Tool at Lowes are now made in China and prone to=
breakage, Snap-On sold this line of tools off.
Just an observation,
Bob T.

I've had one of the Harbor Freight aluminum 1 1/2 ton Jacks since I started=
back racing. Works great for the Spitfire as it's nice and low. When I had=
a flat on the trailer I used the jack to try to lift one corner of the tra=
iler, empty. 2000 lbs max, probably less and the seals on the jack wouldn't=
hold. Ton and a half my ...... I now carry a 20 ton bottle jack for the=
trailer.=20

I, too, have a couple of really nice Craftsman floor jacks which are all I =
use around the shop. The bigger one weighs 95 pounds and is just too unwie=
ldy to horse around for a race weekend (and the smaller one is too small to=
be my only jack at the track). I recently bought a Harbor Freight (Horrib=
le Fright?) jack which might not be as reliable, but is more useful. And =
I have (and use) jack stands just in case it decides to become unreliable w=
hile I am underneath the car. If it lasts 10 years before it goes south, I=
=E2=80=99ll be satisfied with that.

I still have my Sears floor jack I bought 35 years ago. However, it's way =
too heavy to take on racing weekends and I don't even use it much in the ga=
rage - just takes too much effort to move around compared to the light weig=
ht one. I'd consider paying more for a good light weight one, if it really=
is superior in quality. Certainly not an item I want to have fail while i=
n use!

I'm looking for light weight and a fair price - will pay something extra fo=
