Heck I don't want to get in a pissin' contest but these are my thoughts as
well. No engine needs additives to make the difference between working and
hand-grenading.
Proper clearances, temps, pressure, flow are what are important, the zinc
additives are good for cam & tappet break-in & maybe as an insurance-policy...

My dad, one of the engineers responsible for the Buick/Rover 3.5 taught me that
if you start with a quality motor oil, there is no need for any additives.
Disagree if you wish, but I have stuck with that advice.
