Yes, the FE (small crank) was made to accept cam bearings, but not so the
later 1300 FK prefix (large crank) which also followed through to the 1500
Spitfire.

See description in parts list. It says to Bore Block 1.9680 + .0015/.0000.
I'd still take a set of bearings with you to the machine shop and have the
double check.
The 1300 block was made this way, so your guy can use data for it as a
reference.
